Five Things Luxury Car Brands Think You Need After the Car

Porsche has a $7,029 roof tent. Ferrari sells a $390 silk sleep mask. Rolls-Royce will pack your picnic in teak and saddle leather. Apparently the car was only the beginning.

Buying the car is apparently no longer the end of the transaction.

Luxury car accessories have escaped the garage. The badge can now follow you almost anywhere: into the woods, onto a picnic blanket, into a child’s playroom, over your eyes while you sleep and, naturally, onto the espresso cup.

Here are five current examples.

1. Porsche Wants You to Put a $7,029 Tent on the Roof

Porsche currently lists a two-person roof tent for $7,029 before tax.

It has a hard shell, mattress, skylight, side windows, quilted lining and a telescopic ladder. Studio F.A. Porsche designed the shell, and the whole thing weighs about 123.5 pounds.

The official U.S. shop currently shows an Add to shopping cart button.

Apparently sleeping next to the Porsche was not intimate enough.

2. Rolls-Royce Will Pack Your Picnic in Teak and Saddle Leather

Rolls-Royce does not list a public price for its picnic hamper, which feels spiritually correct.

The current accessory is handcrafted from oiled teak, saddle leather and polished aluminium, with lead-crystal wine glasses, Wedgwood crockery and handmade stainless-steel cutlery for four.

There are even fold-away picnic tables that can be specified in veneers matching the car.

A sandwich has never had this much support staff.

3. Bentley Made a £675 Mulliner-Inspired Trike

Bentley’s current children’s collection includes a six-in-one trike inspired by Mulliner cars for £675.

It gets diamond-in-diamond quilting, Mulliner-style wheels, extended paintwork and a quilted push-handle bag. The six modes are designed to adapt as the child grows.

Which means your toddler can now out-spec someone else’s toddler.

The trike does not need a W12 engine.

Its audience is still learning stairs.

4. Ferrari Sells a $390 Silk Sleep Mask

Ferrari’s U.S. store currently lists a jacquard-silk sleep mask for $390.

It is made in Italy, lined in silk, padded for comfort and covered in a tone-on-tone Cavallini monogram. Even the elastic is silk-covered.

This may be the first Ferrari product specifically designed to help you stop looking at Ferraris.

The sleep mask also comes with a drawstring pouch, because apparently bedtime now has luggage.

5. Lamborghini Designed a $55 Espresso Set Because Of Course It Did

Automobili Lamborghini currently lists a $55 special-edition espresso set created with Lavazza and designed by its own Centro Stile.

It is made from ceramic and is limited to 1,963 pieces, a number that nods to Lamborghini’s founding year. The brand says the shapes of the Revuelto and Temerario were translated into the set.

So the supercar design language now comes in demitasse form.

Honestly, this may be the most Italian possible conclusion to the exercise.

None of these objects proves someone who buys the car wants the entire branded ecosystem too.

But the ecosystem is certainly waiting for them.

The garage was just the opening act.
